Living in Washington DC, lots of living space can be hard to come by. So we celebrated when we found the perfect apartment. It’s great most of the time, but there’s not much room for overnight guests. To make the most of our space, we decided a convertible sofa would be a better option than an air mattress. However, most hideaway beds are heavy, expensive, and hard to move. We found this fold-down couch on hayneedle.com, and knew it was perfect for us. So far, our guests have loved it!
When it’s time to turn in for the night, the couch easily folds down, and we accent it with sheets, a duvet, and towels, all in crisp white, to make our guests as comfy as possible.
The Artemis chair is the living room’s standout piece. Its funky mid-century modern design tends to draw the most attention from guests. Also it has a natural recline that’s quite comfortable. The acrylic nesting tables next to the Artemis chair continue the modern feel but don’t clutter the room.
Wishbone chairs against the windows double as additional seating for the dining area when we have dinner parties with five or six guests. We chose the wishbone chairs because they work seamlessly in both the living and the dining area.
To frame the neutral painting I created specifically for the black wall the modern, the Nuevo Amici Indoor Bench was perfect. The silver bench stands out off the black wall and is also the perfect place for my purse. We also keep blankets stored in a basket under the bench. If we ever have a large party it will be integral for additional seating.
In the brightest, sunniest corner of the living room we added a non-flowering Birds of Paradise plant in a large stainless steel planter. It’s amazing what some greenery will do to bring a lively feeling to the space.
I love to mix all types of pillows for a collected look and feel. Pillows can easily be switched out for a different look each season.
