Having family and friends over for 4th of July is a great way to celebrate America’s birthday. I love planning a simple and delicious menu. I do that because I love having time to spend with family and friends and don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen, when I could be hanging out.
One of the easiest ways to cut time and effort from your menu is to prepare a quick prep dessert ahead of time. A cream puff and fruit covered American flag, is perfect because it’s themed, fresh, and most importantly super easy!
Here’s the recipe. Well it’s hardly a recipe; these are more like prep instructions.
You will need:
1 package of packaged puff pastry.
1 quart of whipping cream
4 tablespoons sugar
1-cup fresh blueberries
3 cups sliced strawberries
pastry bag with a star tip
Bake the entire package of puff pastry according to the package instructions. Set aside to cool. Whip cream add sugar once peaks start to form.
On a rectangular platter, arrange the puff pastry into a rectangle; it should form the shape and base of your flag. Spread the whip cream over the puff pastry in an even layer. Place blueberries in the upper left corner, then line the strawberries into stripes to form the flag. Finally pipe the whip cream with star tip onto the blueberry square forming the flag’s stars.
Place into the fridge until ready to serve. You and your guests will love it.
Keep it simple and fresh, always prepare ahead so you can celebrate with your guests, that’s what the 4th of July holiday is all about.
