Savoring Summer …
I’m sort of in denial that it’s already August. It seems like just yesterday I was toasting a margarita to Cinco de Mayo and counting down the days until Memorial Day.
Until summer officially comes to a close, I plan on soaking up every last drop of summer sunshine and sweet moments with friends. I decided to kill two birds with one stone this month and throw a little backyard bash with some of my favorite bloggers. (Check out #hayneedlebash on Instagram for more photos!)
Our backyard was made for entertaining! Our driveway leads directly back there, so instead of having friends weaving their way through the house, we greeted them out back with this chalkboard sign. Regardless of the event, it’s fun to have a hashtag for a party so friends can follow along on the photo fun — especially if some guests don’t know each other.
Mix ‘n’ Match
I love the idea of mixing and matching dishes for big parties. After all, how many of us have 20 pieces of the same pattern? Plus, this is so much more fun!
We scattered smaller plates around the serving platters, and mixed in a myriad of small bowls, dishes, and candles. As for the outdoor table, the Meadow Decor Windsor Glass Top Dining Table worked like a dream! We topped it with the simple Cathy’s Concepts Linen Hemstitch Table Runner to set the base for our pattern-play extravaganza! You might have noticed the lack of silverware. For summer soirees, I have a strict No Silverware rule. Finger foods are so much more conducive to snacking and mingling.
In order to increase seating, I like to keep around interesting pieces that I can pair with our existing outdoor furniture. I’m obsessed with the Sally Hourglass Sitting Stools! Our hotel in Shanghai that we stayed at recently had them in a variety of different colors in their lounge area and they looked amazing!

We stocked ours with our favorite vintage-inspired sodas, sparkling water, and champagne to top off our Rock Candy French 75s.
